Dance Courses and Qualifications Offered at ADPI

We aim to provide cutting edge professional training for its students in line with its mission of providing its students with an "education of a lifetime". Our fully accredited and nationally recognised courses in Musical Theatre, Commercial Dance, Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance also have Austudy / Abstudy, Youth Allowance and CRICOS (01600A) approval.
They are designed for high school students, school leavers and adults.

All of our staff are actively involved members of the industry, in their respective genres and fields, throughout the world. They are totally committed to passing on their wealth of knowledge, expertise and passion for the performing arts. We welcome students nationally and internationally who have the physicality / talent, desire, commitment, and discipline to strive to achieve their performing arts life goals. Many former students have through their training gained contracts with world renowned companies, enriched their training in Company Schools or gone on to Higher Education. Other graduates also run successful schools or teach in other studios nationally and internationally.

CUA30113 Certificate III in Dance

Our Certificate III in Performing Arts is a programe designed primarily for high school students seeking to further their education and experience in the performing arts. In addition to earning points towards their Queensland Certificate of Education it provides, for the more serious student, a window into full time performing arts tuition, before taking that step. The Course is delivered over a school year in line with secondary state school term dates and, with their School's permission, students attend for one full day per week, usually on a Wednesday, from approximately 8.30am - 3.30pm.

The course explores a range of skill sets required for the dance and music theatre industry.

These include: Classical Ballet, Jazz Dance, Acting, Singing and Contemporary Dance. Professional development training such as career planning, dance composition, hair and presentation skills, computer literacy and working with a diverse range of colleagues and contexts.

Entry Requirements:
Participants should have attained an educational standard of Year 8, and/or equivalence to meet the language and literacy requirements of the course
Participation in entrance auditions

CUA50113 Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance)

This course is designed for the younger school leaver who is seeking industry entry training in classical and contemporary dance. Classes have a high degree of practical training, rehearsal and performance, across the disciplines of Classical Ballet, Pas de Deux, Original Composition, Contemporary Dance, Jazz, Dance History and Industry Development subjects.

Credit for the completion of the Diploma may be banked for the student with the Queensland Studies Authority, may contribute to the issuance of a Queensland Certificate of Education, and may be credited toward an OP equivalent score: awarded by the Queensland Tertiary Application Centre, for students seeking higher education pathways.

Students are assessed through ongoing participation and development through each of the dance and performance streams, including rehearsal and performance participation in a number of performance events, in-house and external, throughout the year. The Diploma of Art is a prerequisite for students who wish to train to a higher level of skills through undertaking the Advanced Diploma of Art in their second year.

Entry requirements for this course include:
  • Competencies equivalent to completion of compulsory schooling in Australia (year 10)
  • or at the Director's discretion
  • Flexible, well proportioned physique and a strong classical technique.
  • Participation in an entrance audition
  • Medical certificate testifying the student is physically able to undertake requirements of the course

CUA60113 Advanced Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance)

This course is open to students seeking full time training to an advanced level of professional practice, skills and excellence.

It focuses on complex technique and development of solo work across the dance genres. Classes have a high degree of practical training, rehearsal and performance, across the disciplines of Classical Ballet, Pas de Deux, Original Composition, Contemporary Dance, Jazz, Dance History and Industry Development subjects.

10508 NAT Advanced Diploma of Art
(Musical Theatre & Commercial Dance).

This Course is open to students seeking full time training to an advanced level of professional practice, skills and excellence. The Advanced Diploma focuses on complex technique and development of solo work across the dance, singing and acting genres.

Classes have a high degree of practical training, rehearsal and performance across the disciplines of Jazz, Tap, Acting, Singing, Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Acto, and Industry Development subjects.

CUA50213 Diploma of Musical Theatre

This course is designed for school leavers seeking industry entry training, to commence a career in Commercial Dance or Musical Theatre.

Classes have a high degree of practical training, rehearsal and performance across the disciplines of Jazz, Tap, Acting, Singing, Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Acro and Industry Development subjects.

Credit for the completion of the Diploma may be banked for the student with the Queensland Studies Authority, may contribute to the issuance of a Queensland Certificate of Education, and may be credited toward an OP equivalent score: awarded by the Queensland Tertiary Application Centre, for students seeking higher education pathways.

Students are assessed through ongoing participation and development through each of the dance and performance streams, including rehearsal and performance participation in a number of in house and external performance events throughout the year.

The CUA50213Diploma of Dance is a prerequisite for students who wish to train to a higher level of skills through undertaking the 10508NAT Advanced Diploma of Art (musical Theatre and Commercial Dance) in their second year.

Entry requirements for this course include:
  • Competencies equivalent to completion of compulsory schooling in Australia (year 10).
  • Participation in an entrance audition.
  • Medical certificate testifying the student is physically able to undertake requirements of the course.

Overseas Students to ADPI

Students from a non-English speaking background (English as a second language), should have achieved the following levels in oral / aural components of ESL proficiency.

ISLPR – International Second Language Proficiency Ratings
scale 2+ to 3 (with no score less than 2)

IELTS – International English Language Testing System (Preferably Module C)
Band 5.5 (with no score less than 5)

TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language - 530
